This a rare and unique opportunity to own a wonderful property in the Apokoronas area. Situated in the charming village of Douliana, Vamos, just a 10-minute drive away or a 20-minute downhill from the closest beach, this stunning property has a much sought-after position perfect for a taste of authentic Greek life in a very friendly village.

Outside living here is a delight with the house being set within the beautifully landscaped garden that is laid to lawn and surrounded by a variety of wonderful trees, flowers, shrubs, palms and one ancient olive. Paved pathways lead to the pool area with sun terraces, the main pool that sums 28.00 sqm.

The house has a large airy open-plan sitting room with a traditional Greek high wooden beamed ceiling. A wood-burning open fireplace occupies one corner, a useful supplement to the central heating for cosy evenings at each end of the season.

High Aesthetic, Privacy & Comfort

There are two sets of French doors for welcome ventilation in summer, one leading to the balcony overlooking the pine-forested valley, and the other to the garden and a crystalline turquoise infinity pool. An excellent supply of books and DVDs fills two bookcases.

The kitchen is fully equipped, with an extensive range of cooking utensils, good-quality appliances and a selection of picnic plates and tumblers for use near the pool. Six-seater dining tables both in the kitchen space and on the terrace provide a choice of eating al-fresco or indoors, both with a view of the sea. There is also a mosaic table at the side of the pool.

There are two light and airy bedrooms, one has a king-size bed with a comfortable pocket-sprung mattress, an en-suite shower, and French doors leading to the balcony. The second has twin beds. Both rooms have plentiful wardrobe space and a safe.

Both rooms have plentiful wardrobe and drawer space and a safe. The sparkling and spacious family bathroom has a full-size bath with handles and a glass-screened shower. All plumbing is UK standard, so toilet arrangements are not of the Greek bag-and-bin variety.

Equipped with a marble table, sun umbrellas and sunbeds, this area is ideal for sunbathing, as below the level of the parapet it is not overlooked, except by the birds in the surrounding pines.

Elegance, Beauty, and Comfort

Originally constructed from local stone and restored with meticulous attention to detail in 1983, this architectural masterpiece underwent a comprehensive renovation in 2007 under the discerning oversight of its current owners. Since then, a strict regimen of maintenance has been upheld, ensuring the property remains in impeccable condition.

With a steadfast commitment to preserving its historical integrity and enduring beauty, this residence stands as a testament to Chania’s rich architectural heritage, ready to captivate its discerning new owners.

Stepping inside, you’ll be greeted by a light-filled interior exuding a relaxed bohemian charm. The ground floor hosts an independent studio, complete with all amenities, offering a lucrative opportunity for rental income. Ascending to the main living quarters on the upper levels, you’ll discover a functional kitchen on the first floor, complemented by a spacious central living room and well-appointed bedrooms.

Thoughtful upgrades such as air conditioning in select bedrooms and recent waterproofing of the rooftop terrace ensure modern comfort without compromising the authentic character of the home. Preserving the original wooden doors and windows adds to the residence’s timeless appeal, while double glazing enhances energy efficiency.

With its capacity to comfortably accommodate 6 to 7 guests, charming ambience, and modern amenities, this property is poised to deliver an exceptional experience for guests and homeowners alike. Whether you seek a tranquil getaway or a savvy investment venture, this property in Chania offers the best of both worlds.

Location Description

The property is situated alongside an agricultural track in the ancient Cretan village of Douliana in the popular area of Apokoronas. It is secluded, but not isolated, with tavernas, kafenion, restaurant and mini-market within easy strolling distance. It is also close to several good beaches, one just a short but bumpy 10-minute drive away, or a 20-minute walk downhill.

Furthermore, from the village of Douliana you can explore the region and find the best blue flag beaches in Apokmoronas, all of them conveniently close to this property for sale.

In the area, there are also some important historical monuments, Byzantine monasteries and a winery, all of them worth a visit.

The residential atmosphere of the wider area makes it a good place for living all year round too. There is a wide range of facilities and shops to save you from regular trips to Chania yet, it’s still very close to the local amenities.

About Douliana

Douliana is a gem. Still at heart a traditional and ancient Cretan village, it is reliant on sheep and olive farming for its main sources of income. A handful of rental villas add a mix of nationalities to the diners at “Ta Douliana”, an old -established taverna with a cool, tree-shaded courtyard which attracts many Greek families from the surrounding area at weekends.

The kafenion, in the tiny village square, is well used by the villagers and is an ideal place for people-watching with a Greek coffee or a glass of raki, or tsikoudia as the Cretans call it.

A small mini-market and bar at Natalia’s Houses is run by the charming and helpful Vasso and Natalia Lourakis, who speak perfect English. A second taverna, Heliostasi, next to Natalia’s Houses has an amazing view over the valley up to the White Mountains from the terrace, a pretty garden and an excellent traditional menu. All are within easy walking distance of the property.
